The Cult of Opinion

So, what's on YOUR mind?

Introducing: Luke’s Let’s Talk

Welcome to a new page of The Cult of Opinion, Luke’s Let’s Talk. This sub-section will focus on spreading mental health awareness, sharing personal struggles, and exploring the mind of someone who has struggled with mental health their entire life.

The page itself is named for Bell Let’s Talk, the day which finally inspired me to open up about my story. I originally posted my stories and mental health awareness on my personal Facebook page, but decided to shift platforms to WordPress.

About Me

My name, to the surprise of no one, is Luke. I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in August of 2003 when I was 7 years old, and recently began medication to treat Anxiety after suffering from it for many years. I deal with episodes of depression and other negative emotions and thoughts which have impacted me throughout my entire life. My Facebook posts covering these topics in further detail will be fully archived soon.

I hid my true emotions and grief from my early childhood for many years, instead hiding behind a smile and laughter in hopes that nobody would ever see the real me. I adopted many silly quirks and the persona of someone who looks at life as an opportunity. But I’ve run out of willpower to pretend things in life are okay when they aren’t. Instead I have turned my attention to revealing the true me and spreading mental health awareness.

What to expect

The content of these posts will vary. I will post about my personal struggles, spreading mental health awareness in an attempt to remove the stigma against mental health, advice on how to deal with people who are struggling with mental illnesses, and advice to others who are struggling and how I have coped with what I go through.

I hope that people will read and share these blog posts, it really would mean the world to me and I want to thank every person who took the time to read what I had to say.

Expect much much more to come in the future,

Luke

Thank you. I’ll be sharing with my son. The struggle is real and at times overwhelming for all of us with mental illness.

I hope it helps your son. I find the thing that really brings me peace is knowing there are other people like me out there. It’s a nice reminder that I’m not alone. I hope all for the best for you two.

Luke, you are one of the most genuinely nice people I have ever met in my entire life. You are kind, funny, sweet, and always have a great smile. You’re a great listener. Someone that one can turn to when they have an issue. I couldn’t imagine a world without having met you. You helped me find a new job when I asked. You’re a great guy and deserve lots of love. Don’t let anyone tell you differently!
