Where has the time gone? I find it hard to believe that my first Facebook post was 7 1/2 years ago. July 24, 2007 at 5:42pm to be precise. In the old form of Facebook your status always started with “Geeko Suave is…” (well mine did anyways. Yours probably started with your name). But several years ago Facebook dropped the “is” so looking back in my FB activity log my very first status reads “Geeko Suave at home”; wow is that the best I could come up with? Talk about cracking under pressure.
Rather prophetically the very first wall post I ever had was from Jackie who commented “aww RICK! welcome to the dark side. Facebook will soon take over your life.” Bahahaha. No truer words have ever been spoken.
Oh FB; my mistress, my addiction, my best friend and my worst enemy. Over the years I have posted pretty much everything going on in my life there and until this blog it was the only place I had to share my thoughts with the world. There has to have been well over 4,000 status updates, wall posts, comments and likes since then.
Anyhow, to the point – the people that know me well know that I am my own biggest fan. Nobody laughs harder or longer at my jokes than me. I kill me. I don’t know what a psychologist would say about this fact but honestly I think it’s a good thing. We all tend to beat ourselves up over the little things in life so its good if we can have a side of us that we look at and say we like.
One of my beefs with FB is that there is no way to pin or flag a post that you particularly like so that it always appears on your page. Over time everything falls off the end of your timeline. The stuff that drops off is still within FB but finding it becomes difficult and when you have had several thousand posts it eventually becomes virtually impossible to find something old. There is a button on your cover photo for an activity log that that contains every action you ever made on your account but it isn’t easy to navigate and given that when you add all the likes, comments you’ve made over the years, it is pretty daunting.
So with that said I have decided to start Facebook Friday’s where I will comb through my FB activity log and find a post I thought was particularly good and toss it up here and see what you think about it. What do you say? Just a chance for me to think I am awesome all over again.
It should be noted that I think you are almost as funny as you do. Almost.
